From the moment one wakes up to the moment they go to sleep encounters with the internet or technology are inventible, that is unless you are Amish. The use of the internet and phones varies from work, school, and research to social media, messaging, group chats, and gaming. Due to the vast advancements made in technology, most cell phones come equipped with internet so now the internet and cell phones coincide. Although the internet and new technology have created some negative effects, including concerns with how information is used, one simply cannot ignore the positive effects such as an increase in efficiency and productivity and ease of communication.

Furthermore, commutating with a friend, family member, teacher, etc., has shifted from phone calls to messages from letters to video chats, SMS, emails, e-postcard, and I-message, so this means that most communication that would have been done by means of paper and pen are now done virtually . This can have a positive effect because a message being sent will be received long before a letter would; the internet saves a great amount of time. Another example being that many companies choose to hold meetings via video chat this helps save time because traveling does not become a concern and it allows for meetings that are urgent to be held as soon as possible not as soon as the other company makes it into town. To add to the time that is being saved, due to the ease of communication that the internet provides one with, it is important to know that the internet can be very helpful to those who struggle to communicate with people face to face. When NCBI did a study on the relation between a college student’s internet use and social anxiety, it was found that anxiety levels would decrease significantly when the students were interacting online or using the internet. This means that social media apps, chat rooms, gaming chats and even video forums such as YouTube can allow one to communicate with others in an environment that feels safer and can in turn can gradually become more comfortable with face to face communication. Most people feel that when put into social settings they become claustrophobic but with ability to access the internet in their own room, the room would be more familiar which in turn would ease the anxiety and feeling of claustrophobia.
