The film The Liberator portrays the life of Simon Bolivar, an influential activist in the revolutions against the Spanish Empire in South America. The movie does a great job in displaying the many aspects of Simon Bolivar, what he stood for and the way he felt towards his people. Like the majority of films this The Liberator has its flaws. The first scene of the movie shows a man walking up stairs in a very nice house. We do not know who the man is but we do know he is of high importance because of the way he is acting in the house. The movie did not glorify him and make him look like a perfect human being. What I mean by that is, the film did not make it seem as though Bolivar was perfect or untouchable. It did not make it appear as though everyone loved Bolivar or that everything fell into place easily for him. One example of this, is when Bolivar was leading people away from Caracas. As Bolivar and the people who followed him were leaving Caracas a lady fell. Bolivar went over to help her get up and moving again, but something interesting happened. The reason is because, it showed that not everyone supported the movement that Bolivar put so much effort into and it also did not show Bolivar as an idol. It showed that Bolivar had to work to gain support from the people. Another example in the movie is when Simon Rodriguez, Bolivar’s tutor and mentor, called out Bolivar and pretty much informed him that he had fallen off the correct path and that he had lost himself. That scene displayed the intense personal struggles that Bolivar was going through. Today, in a lot of movies the personal issues that magical characters go through can be overdramatic. I personally do not believe that this to be the case in this movie. The movie did a great job of getting across the point that Bolivar had to overcome many personal and political obstacles without it being overdramatic and
