Physical activity is an important factor that determines how healthy an individual is. To achieve a high level of wellness, one must take part in physical activity on a regular basis. Many people see exercise as a burden, and as annoying activity that forces them to leave the comfort of the indoors. What these people do not realize is that a sedentary lifestyle increases ones risk for many negative health conditions, and that these conditions can be averted by taking part in fun activities. Exercise is very important, and does not have to be challenging, or difficult. It can take the form of enjoyable sports and activities that make exercising a lot easier
There are many negative health factors associated with a lack of physical activity. Although perhaps somewhat obvious, inactive individuals tend to gain more weight. Physical activity quite nearly doubles the risk for an individual to become obese (“Physical Activity”). Obesity is connected to diabetes and other major negative health conditions (DePietro). Those who remain inactive and instead control their weight by only dieting are also at risk for negative health conditions. Dieting, at a certain point, causes a deficiency of nutrients in the body which can lead to other medical problems. There is no choice between exercise and eating health for those who want to control their weight: they need to do both. Furthermore, a lack of exercise can lead to an increased risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones in the body can be easily fractured. Physical activity strengthens the bones of the body, effectively reducing the risk of osteoporosis (DePietro). Exercise is very important to maintaining wellness, and can be fun too. A sedentary lifestyle greatly increases one’s risk for a variety of health issues that can be very dangerous. Fortunately, exercise can help those who are inactive to get back on track, and to reverse these negative effects. It can also help those who are active to maintain their current level of health. It is important to recognize if you have any concern of injury from exercise due to a preexisting medical condition, however. In this case, you should consult your doctor to determine what your limits are. But in most cases, the benefits of physical activity dramatically outweigh the risk of getting hurt. Get up, get some fresh air, and enjoy the world of exercise on a regular basis, and who knows, it might make you even live longer.
