At the beginning of this paper I mentioned that there are eight stages in the psychosocial development theory starting with trust vs. mistrust. This stage begins at birth to one year of age. This is when I should have formed a trust with my primary caregiver or caregivers. My dad was absent most of this stage, so my mother was my primary caregiver. Since she never taught me good behavior, right from wrong, and was uncaring when I was born, I did not feel safe or secure around her. I had a vague understanding of myself when I left high school, and an even vaguer understanding of why I didn’t succeed like I felt I could have. This is a fairly common predicament, if not the standard. I felt that I wouldn’t succeed if I moved on to college, so I waited.

Being an older college student, my desire is to learn everything that I possibly can with the aid of Victory University. It was fascinating reading about Rene’ Descartes who grew up in France. Descartes was also a life-long learner. He was the thinker and writer who coined the phrase, “I think, therefore I am” (Gluck, Mercado, & Myers, 2014, p. 7). Although Descartes existed during the time of the Renaissance, his theory that the eyes were significant to stimulating other parts of the body, such as the fingers, arms and legs was brilliant. It is now understood that this” process begins with the stimulus, a sensory event from the outside world entering” through the eyes (Gluck et al., 2014, p. 7).
