Though English is a foreign linguistic communication in India its importance is much more than any other languages spoken in India.It’s because it's used in Educational field, it’s a path of communicating in areas like business and professional.The impact of English language is high in educational field and so as for students. Though the English language taught from elementary class in schools there is a need of English communication class at graduation level because lack of English knowledge.The English language has great impact on our educational system and therefore it’s necessary to understand what problems student faces in their educational background and to ascertain the effective ways of improving it. Figure 1 state that 10% students state that they are not interested and also not well taught by teacher, 22% students says that it's because they use their regional language while communicating, but the majority of students 36% agreed that their communication skill is not good because of lack of practice.

Figure 2 states that 56% students face grammar problems while writing, 26% do not prefer to write in English and 18% state that their basic knowledge in English is not good enough from the school stage.

From figure 3 and figure 4we can say that 84% students agreed that they tried and 68% says that the difficulty level was moderate, 26% feels it was less difficult and 6% says that it was very difficult. But 16% students didn’t try to write an essay or an article because they faceddifficulties in grammar.

According to Runciman, there are many plausible reasons that students and other people don’t enjoy writing. Evidence, assumptions, and language and tone are the basis for which Runciman makes his argument. Overall, this argument is effective because reliable and well known sources are used in a logical fashion. Also, the assumptions made about the audience are accurate and believable. Runciman used his assumptions wisely when writing his claim and in turn created a compelling, attention capturing argument. The article was written so that students and teachers at any level could understand and easily read it. This argument is interesting, captivating, relevant through its age, and can relate to students and teachers at almost every academic level.
The first essay given in this course was about our whole composing process. This essay was hard to write about and I remember having several grammar mistakes. Sitting down and writing my process on paper,
I feel that the hardest assignment that I received throughout this class were the Lab assignments because there were a lot of long passages, and I wasn’t able to understand everything that it was talking about the passage. I always dreaded taking English, for I was not good at writing and I’ve always had trouble understanding the formats and concepts that the class required. I only understood basic knowledge on how to construct an essay: a thesis, body paragraphs, and conclusion. After a few weeks into the course, I realized that there was a lot more to essay writing then I thought. It was as if I was learning a whole new language. The greatest area of improvement in my writing was my ability to construct a proper thesis statement, and the resources that instructed me on how to do so were Professor Frusciante’s essay 2-workshop webinar, and the BC outline paper.
Writing an essay often seems to be an overwhelming task for many individuals. For students like myself, who came from another country, writing can be more difficult and challenging. It can be very frustrating to fully comprehend an idea, and being unable to express it proficiently in English can be excruciating. For these reasons, assistance is often needed to become an effective writer. The focus of this paper is to demonstrate the process on how I organized and accomplished my most recent essay, and to identify the struggles I encountered when writing the paper. English Language Learners range from Newcomers learning survival English and developing foundational literacy skills to Long-Term English Learners who have had 6 years or more of their education in English yet continue have significant language gaps. These students may speak English with little or no accent and still lack the vocabulary, grammar and grade level literacy to be successful in school. English language learners may remain silent in the classroom as they adjust to a new school, environment, and culture unless he is a native language comrade to interact with. The English language learners are concerned about decoding verbal and non- verbal communication as well as understanding the social culture framework of the school. Most of the time English language learners are observing during instruction, trying to repeat words used by others, memorizing simple phrases and sentences, tired by midday or be frustrated attending long lectures unaccompanied by visual and gestures, relying on first language translation used peer translation or bilingual dictionary, as the students begin to learner they become more involved in the classroom, they can respond non-verbally to commands, statements, and questions in simple form. As their oral comprehension increases, they begin to use simple word and phrases and may use English spontaneously. They can understand short conversation on a simple topic when reading students can understand a narrative text and authentic materials, although they will be below
I believe students feel daunted by all the rules that the teachers are trying to teach them with grammar. However, writing classes are encouraging the students to release their barriers with writings and encourage their inner thoughts to be released as well. In the study from Patrick Hartwell’s article, he mentioned that, “So Grammar 1 is eminently usable knowledge—the way we make our life through language—but it is not accessible knowledge; in a profound sense, we do not know that we have it (Hartwell).” This article encourages our grammar knowledge, which we have stored unknowingly, be brought out and one way that this could be is if we let the students hand in their writing unedited to the teacher to look over their mistakes but not to make any corrections. Then the students use a red pen to correct their mistakes and edit their paper themselves so that the teacher has an understanding of what grammar errors students can correct on their own. This way students’ strengths and weakness in grammar are considered more than teaching the rules of grammar. In order to learn and gain an understanding of grammar, it must be a part of students’ education since it helps students correct their overlooked mistakes and for professionalism’s sake. Grammar is needed as Christensen’s article summarizes when she says, “We must teach our students how to match subjects and verbs, how to pronounce lawyer, because they are the ones without power and, for the moment, they have to use the language of the powerful to be heard (Christensen).” Grammar is important for our writing, nevertheless; grammar shouldn’t be the focus of how we write instead our thoughts should
English 1 has been the most challenging class in my academic experience so far. The reason behind this class being so challenging is that writing has been and it still is a very hard task for me. Although I have had numerous difficulties in this class, I believe that within the past 16 weeks I have improved significantly as a writer and have become more comfortable with evaluating college-level texts.
The most difficult part of the writing process is the beginning, which accurately describes my life. I am Mexican, born to two very Hispanic parents, who believed it was of major importance to teach me Spanish before learning English. They didn’t want to be the kind of parents who didn’t teach their children Spanish, letting the language lineage die. So, Spanish is my first language; which looking back at, this was a smart decision on my parents’ behalf— because my little brother who learned English first, can’t speak Spanish very well. For the first couple of years of my life Spanish was all I knew, until pre-k came around.
Because English is my second language, English courses would sometimes challenge me, so I would rarely enjoy the class. For me; however, the fear of failure was prevalent and at the forefront of my English language journey, the fear was so overwhelming that I even opt not to do the English Proficiency Test provided by the Language and Linguistics Department of The UWI. I have been a student in the Critical Reading and Writing in the Disciplines (FOUND 1019) for almost two semester at The University of The West Indies, Mona. Over the duration of the course I have grown to learn more than I thought I could have. Over the years of being in high school I always see myself and the English language being on opposite sides of the spectrum and it would have to take a miracle for me to accept and to have an appreciation of the language and its concepts. Being introduced to the FOUND1019 program my expectations were not high and much interest was not shown on my part at first. However, going through the program to almost completion, this course have taught me much more than I would have expected to learn based on my view and dislike of the subject. With much thanks to the FOUN1019 program, I have learned how to construct a proper essay and explore the different parameters of essay writing and writing in general, I have also gained a better understanding and the important aspect of thinking and reading critically as this skill comes in handy especially when doing scientific research papers for my Science degree.
