Nursing The field of nursing is a wonderful field to look into. Nursing is a mixture of emotions: heartbreaks and heartwarming moments. People say you will always need a nurse, and you will. A nurse is more than a care provider, she is the one doctors and patients depend on. Nurses do so much for patients and it is a great feeling knowing that you can help someone in need. Nursing takes a lot of school and practice, but it is a big reward. I had the honor to shadow on November 18th with Leslye Ragsdale, a registered nurse who works in the NICU at Presbyterian Hospital. Ragsdale graduated from The University of New Mexico. She got her bachelors in science of nursing. It took her 5 years due to the fact that the first year she wasn’t sure what she wanted to major in. Ragsdale had been working in Labor and Delivery at Presbyterian for 3 years and in the NICU for 1 and a half years. Ragsdale encourages students to consider nursing. She says, “The advice I would offer someone going into this career is do something you love and enjoy, nursing is a great field. You have many options as to where you would like to work”. You are in between a heartbreak and heartwarming job. Going into the nursing field may be challenging, but at the same time rewarding. The heartbreaks of being a RN are you will have to make some tough decisions like the one Ragsdale has to make with premature baby Rayne. The heartwarming part is that you do everything you can to make sure your patient is in good hands and has positive results, and when they do you feel amazing, and that is the best reward you can get. Nursing can take some time depending what steps you take, but the beauty about nursing is that you get to choose what department you would like to work in. you have options.
