.Although war, natural disasters, diseases, and crime are common occurrences, I am convinced that most people would be happy if they did not exist. In fact, I would argue that most people would say that these things are an indication that all is not well with the world. The presences of suffering, and evil in the world is a major problem for people who believe in God. In order to understand why this is a major problem we need to consider, and understand what people believe about God. Most people believe God is the creator of the world. They also believe that God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and all-good (benevolent) (Philosophy of Religion 200). However, if this is the case then the logical question emerges as to why God would create a world, where evil and suffering is present. Hence the “Problem of Evil”.
