Ethics The ethical issues that I have observed or encountered was when one of my clients was
Acting inappropriate by making sexual comments in the session. My supervisor asked him to stop and told him that if he does not, the session will end and we will leave. The client did end up stopping. Another issue is when my client opened the door with no pants on. My supervisor told him to put on pants and that we will wait outside until he does. He shut the door and put on his pants and then we were able to begin the session. Another issue is when one of my clients asked me to take her shopping and to spend time with her. Foundations Counseling Center focuses on dealing with the client’s current situation. We would get information from the client’s past during their intake session, but would try to keep the focus on how the client was currently doing instead of trying to figure out why the client may be dealing with that problem. I was more patient with each one of my clients because I realized that I do not have to accomplish everything in one session. I have realized that it takes time for a client to work on their goals and objectives and that it does not happen overnight. The Lord really helped me understand this because of how patient He is with me and my sin issues. He does not expect me to change overnight. He just wants me to become more like Him daily. He is proud of me whether it is a small step or big step and does not love me any more or less whether I improve or not. Remembering this truth helps me deal patiently with my clients. It reminds me to treat them with love and grace whether they improve or not. I also improved by giving my clients more responsibility by giving them homework and asking them what they think they can do to improve their current situation, instead of them relying on me for the answers. I think doing this gave them more hope that they can make it on their own and that they do not need me or any other human being to give them all the answers. I think for many of my clients this helped build their self -confidence and self-esteem instead of finding their self-worth and confidence in another
