Tea is one of the most common drinks worldwide, in many cultures it is believed that drinking tea improves your overall health. For instance, green tea is drunk by people with Type 2 diabetes because compounds in green tea help the processing of sugars in the body. Tea may also help reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, protecting against cardiovascular and degenerative diseases. The clotting of blood formed by high cholesterol and blood platelets results in heart attacks and strokes, but drinking tea may help keep your arteries clog-free of blood. Tea is capable of lowering BMI by decreasing the persons’ chance of suffering from metabolic syndrome. One cause of cardiovascular diseases is atherosclerosis, in which plaque builds up in the arterial walls causing narrowing of the arteries making it harder for blood to flow. The buildup of plaque in the arteries can cause the formation of a blood clot which may completely stop the blood from flowing resulting in a heart attack or stroke. High cholesterol in your body is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Too much cholesterol in your blood builds up in the walls of your arteries, causing atherosclerosis. Flow of blood and oxygen to the heart muscle is then blocked triggering a heart attack. [6] Seven studies from seven different countries showed an outcome of a decrease in the overall cardiovascular disease with increasing tea consumption. The average tea consumption in this research was three cups of tea per day. The rate of decrease in cardiovascular diseases was different between every geographic region. [24] Age is associated with the amount of green, black and oolong tea consumed by men and women. Of the three teas used in this experiment, green tea consumption was associated with lower risk of CVD in women as well as men. Black tea consumption didn 't show any association
