With the increasing population, a continuing trend is expected whereby people will be residing in urban areas (around 93% by 2050). This will have a lingering impact on the Australian environment as it will continue to see the loss of biodiversity, limited water supply and threats to food security. To deal with the challenge of rising population, planners must consider sustainability in their planning activities because they need to be able to create adaptable sustainable communities.
