Sovik 8 Smash Brothers 64 community, the first iteration of the series, is very respectful and wise. They play the game because they enjoy it and the people they associate themselves with. The maturity of the community shows as they were very welcoming to me when I participated in my first ever Super Smash Brothers 64 tournament. I associated myself with the 64 community a good portion of the second day. The Super Smash Brothers Melee is similar to the 64 community in many ways. Much like 64, they play to enjoy the game and the people they’re associated with and show lots of maturity and responsibility. The project itself taught me some great social skills along the way. Talking to professional players at Genesis 3 and at my local tournaments has changed my perspective on competitive Smash drastically. I used to think about just “winning” in Smash, but now I take it as an enjoyable experience to get away from any sort of drama and just be myself. Even though I’m still shy as a person, the Melee community in particular has made me feel welcomed and happy to be a part of this great community. One of the things that’s surprised me the most out of the project is the amount of unique personalities I’ve come to meet out of this project. I would’ve never guessed that talking to people over online voice chats would be so helpful. The only disappointment I can think of out of this senior project would be more time to research. I’ve never had so much fun doing a project on something I like. The project has helped me grow as a player, a person, and a competitor. I feel I’ve matured as a person throughout the project by taking my responsibilities very seriously and putting lots of time into my work log and
