Just be yourself In his rendering of the poem “Identity,” Julio Noboa Polanco conveys his experience or background growing into the person he is. He describes how he sees himself and others l through imagery, figurative language and diction to depict how he rather be ugly and free then to be pretty and trapped. The poem diction throughout the poem repetition of a “flower” is a symbol for beautiful humans. Polanca uses this to convey how there “harnesses” to everyone’s expectations like the flower relies on human to be watered, fed , and admired and not aware there trapped and people believe to be admired they have to wear the latest clothes and act the same like all flowers. On the other hand he sees himself as a “weed” to symbolize the unwanted , ugly and free like a “eagle” but with “clinging” not the edge representing risk. …show more content…

As the poem continues, there is many repetition of the hyperbole “ I rather be a tall ugly weed,clinging on cliffs,like an eagle”this metaphorical language points to a deeper passion of freedom and desire that he can “feel exposed to the madness”. this movement shows a strong sense of freedom you can experience and risk as a weed, unpleasant,ugly person who can enjoy life and freedom.
