During the Fall 2015 semester, I accepted an internship with REAL Physical Therapy Clinic. REAL Physical Therapy is a clinic that is co-owned by two UTSA Graduates. They allowed me to assist them with their marketing department during the fall semester. At the beginning of the semester, they let me know what I would be responsible for while interning for the company and what projects I would be helping them with. Through out the semester I accomplished many tasks and learned a great deal while I worked for REAL Physical Therapy. Mailchimp gives the company an easy way to input and segment all of their patients. This allows the company to target certain customers to send emails to depending on what information or campaign was being sent out. Admittedly, the campus does offer some resources for Photoshop in the library, but I think this should be on the syllabus for one of the marketing courses. I’ve spoken to many marketing students and they all feel they lacked the preparedness for using Photoshop in their internship or job. I think having this part of a promotion class or even a course on it is own would be very beneficial to marketing students. In the end, I had to teach Photoshop to myself but I didn’t feel this was the ideal way. I had to start using Photoshop immediately when I started this internship and that transition wasn’t the most pleasant because I felt unprepared. I believe St. Mary’s University can do a better job by implementing Photoshop as a requirement in one or more of its marketing courses. This will be valuable to marketing students considering the majority of marketing jobs want their employees to have some
