Education is the key to success in anyone’s life. With good education comes knowledge, honor, and a solid foundation for a career. The “American Dream” that America as a whole prides itself upon states that with hard work and dedication, its citizens will be able to go far. Education is a big part in the accomplishment of that dream. However, currently California isn’t funding education as much as it should while it funds other less important aspects of society. Higher education should be funded more because of rising tuition prices which is discouraging students from pursuing higher education, it is causing students to raise their debt amount, and it interferes with the success of students pursuing careers. Schools need to be constantly maintaining their resources, updating textbook versions, getting new desks, etc. and they need proper funding to do this. In the article “Building a Great Public University: The Role of Funding at British and American Universities”, Duncan Lindsey states that the reason why universities such as Yale, Harvard, and Cornell are of such good quality is because they get a lot of funding (Lyndsey 218). Countless studies have proven just that. With more funding comes greater quality which results in greater success for the students. In the article "Funding, Resource Allocation, and Performance in Higher Education Systems" by Ingo Liefner, it states that the role of schools is to provide a high quality enviorment for students so that they can succeed (Liefner 470). This in turn doesn’t force schools to ask students for even more money to renovate and maintain the university. This should already be taken care of by state
