We’re all in This Together J.K. Rowling once said, “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” As humans, we are supposedly running the same race. However, we are not all on the same team and our divides seem to only grow stronger. We must regain our unity and strive for human progress and success. Upon graduating high school, Devon Miles, a snare drum prodigy, attends Atlanta A&T University where he soon learns the concept of “One band, one sound” through his mistakes that affect the whole band. Since the beginning of the book, Virginia clearly forms the wrong kind of impression on her co-drum major Drew. This leads to conflicts between their relationship and with the band taking the side of their veteran drum major, Drew, and Virginia is left for the majority of the band to hate. This causes the band to sound horrible due to the problems that present between the two who are the leaders of the band. However, when Mr. Rush essentially forces them to befriend one another, they soon form an interestingly romantic relationship.
