South Sudan is the newest country in the world, the fifty-fourth country in Africa, and the newest country to join the United-Nations. South Sudan is a landlocked country and is located in Eastern-Africa. South Sudan is filled with plains in the north and center parts of the country. Within South Sudan lays the White Nile, a major tributary of the Nile River, which is the longest river in the world spreading four thousand two hundred fifty eight miles long. South Sudan is bordered by six countries: Central African Republic, Kenya, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Sudan.

South Sudan did not get their independence from Sudan until July 9, 2011. This means they were apart of Sudan when Great Britain and Egypt tried to colonized Sudan in 1820. Sudan was colonized by both Egypt and Great Britain. Egypt was the first country to try to colonize Sudan, but later Great Britain invaded Egypt. This invasion caused …show more content…

South Sudan wanted to break away from Sudan because of religious and ethnic differences. A few months after Sudan got their independence, Civil War struck Sudan. In this Civil War, South Sudan was trying to break away from the North. They did not succeed on this first attempt. They still had to fight in protests and marches. Then on May 16, 1983, they began their second Civil War. This is their second civil war that they have had with five decades of fighting, but on January 9, 2005, they created a peace deal. This deal let South Sudan have six years to decide if they wanted to succeed from Sudan and become their independent nation.
