Socrates states that the unexamined life is one that is not worth living. Socrates seems to make a valid statement here in that life can only be a real living experience if you examine your own life. There is a huge significance and a deep underlying meaning of his quote that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” In finding the significance of his quote it must be known the difference between the unexamined life and the examined one as well as the importance behind living an examined life. This thought is made out to be frightening when Plato’s consideration of what an examined life should be like is considered. Although almost every person at some point questions the way they live, it is most likely only a small portion of people who bring it out to be Socratic study. The majority of mankind has been far too distracted with fighting for life to participate in long investigations of philosophy. An examination of life aids in emotional, spiritual, and personal growth. In order to come closer to the true meaning and understanding of existing one must take time to reflect and analyze their life. The ones who reflect their meaning, their purpose, in life will live fully compared to those who do not contemplate their choices. Also, it should be known that in order to fulfill the answer of our meaning in life, one must know to examine others and themselves. Further, in examining others, one should realize that life’s joy should not come from others. Others will only provide a prompt to the way one feels, but joy should only be found by that one person. One’s life is only worth living when that person examines himself to find his purpose in life. In other words, there is no good life nor is there any life that is separate from the examined
