This paper will explore the choices and inspirations as to why I want to be a social worker in the area of child and family studies. Social work is important area/ industry to understand and explore more about as it focuses on helping marginalized induvial/ communities, families, children and just anyone who is suffering in a world of problems and we need to be able to help them. According to AASW they say “Social work aims to maximize the development of human potential”. I was brought up in a large family so there was always some form of family engagement and being told that family is important. Having a family made feel like I knew I wanted to help families and children. According to O’blenes, Missall and Scarlett (2014)” A parent becomes an attachment figure in the child’s life because they tend to feel safe and secure therefore it becomes a major determinant for the quality of the attachment. When I was three years old my father passed away and it didn’t really have an effect on me growing up because I could not remember him or the majority of my experiences growing up when he was here because I did not remember most of it. According to NCTSN (2016) they say that “children with complex trauma suffer a variety of traumatic events such as physical and sexual abuse, domestic and community violence, separation from family and revictiminaztion by others.” Therefore, I feel that by understanding the different areas of trauma can enable me to work with children who have experienced trauma. I think I would like to help children/families and communities return to or create normal aspects accessing need and providing care consistent with the child’s level of need and ensuring the time it will take to provide
