Since Snapchat was created in 2013, the application continues to flourish year after year. Today, the company is worth around 20 billion dollars and has 7 billion video views each day. This makes Snapchat the fastest growing social network for millennials. Snapchat stands at a large advantage in the social media field, because publishers desire to bring their content to places where their content will be viewed the most. In Kurt Wagner’s exclusive Recode interview with Evan Spiegel, he summed up his interview by saying, “It's Evan Spiegel's world — we're all just snapping in it” (Wagner, 1). In 2014 Spiegel told Recode that, "It’s about building something with feelings. Desktop computers were about work. This thing in your hand or in your pocket, you want it to feel fun and friendly and comfortable" (Wagner,1). This is important to analyze in terms of new gathering because of how accessible and entertaining this makes viewing and interacting with news to its users. Snapchat offers news in a way that is different from traditional news platforms. While many applications or television shows give the news directly, Snapchat’s news is interactive. Snapchat is revolutionizing the workforce and creating new jobs in different areas of media. After the introduction of Discover, companies have began to invest in a new section of staff to work for their Snapchat team. These new employees are hired to build and increase each company's Snapchat presence. For example, the female-focused pop-culture news source called Refinery29,has employed 10 new hires to work specifically on the Discover channel (Flynn, 1). Other examples include, The Wall Street Journal, whose company has created a five-person team, along with Fusion that now has 10 Snapchat employees on staff. In order for a company to thrive on Discover, there needs to be a team behind the large commitment. This is because news sources need to reformat their content precisely for Snapchat in order to present their photos and videos vertically. Along with the format of the content, the actual information has to be specific to Snapchat because of the fact that the platform includes more visuals and video clips than traditional news.
