To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee is a 1960 book told through the eyes of a young girl ( Scout Finch ). The book tells a story about a black man being falsy accused of a crime and Scouts father who is a lawyer ( Attticus finch) trying to protect him of being falsy accused. The book also goes into detail about a mysaterious man by the name of Boo Radley. The book explores the ideas of racism, Honesty, childhood, anger and equal rights.

A Time To Kill directed by Joel Schumacher is a 1996 film that is based off the book a To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper lee. The ideals are the same but the story line is differn to the book. Compare the ways in which the authors of both texts explore the idea of racism
- The idea of racism is explored throught both texts in varous differnmt ways. Both of the texts rely heavily of the idea of racism to give meaning and plot in there story. Harper Lee explores the idea of racism in her book To Kill a Mockingbird through symbolism, Langauge anjd envirmomet. Joel Schumachers A time to kill also explores the ideas of racism through symbolism, langiuge and envirmonet just as Harper Lee. Both texts use the power of symbolism to express racism, in A time to kill Josh Schumacher uses symbols like the conbfederate flag, burning crosses and the ku klux klan to express the idea of racism throught his film however in To kill a mockingbird the symbolism ios much different. Harper Lee inteeligently ues symbols of a snowman and Bluejays to express racism. This was expressed when Carl Lee Hailey said to Jake “We are on different sides of the line, I ain't never seen you in my part of town. I bet you don't even know where I live” and Jake saying “They see you, they see a yardworker; they see me, they see an attorney. I live in town, you live in the hill”. To kill a mockjinbgird also simarly uses this idea of sepration with the majority of the blacks living on the outscourts of Maycomb near the dumps and farms and the whites living in town. Another way that the idea of racism is explored throughout the film is from language. Both texts have a huge amount of racist terms and slurr used thought. Terms like Nigger, Negro and black where frequently used throughout both texts. These racist slurs where used in boith texts to show the racism that was alive at those times.
