Stories can have similarities and differences within many parts of the book.In To Kill a Mockingbird and A Time to Kill the authors displayed the same themes throughout the movie and book. The author was showing the reader different perspectives on a trial. The message that should come across the reader's mind is “why are the main characters treating the trials differently”. The main characters ( Atticus Finch and Jake Brigance) have a different ways on handling their trial, but they want the same results. In the two stories the idea of both Atticus and Jake taking a personal risk to stand up for prejudice. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Bob Ewell was putting Atticus in great risk. In A Time to Kill the group “KKK” was putting Jake in risk. In To Kill a Mockingbird Bob was making threats toward Atticus and he spit on him. He also tried to attack his children all throughout this. In A Time to Kill the KKK were making threats over the phone. They also burned a cross on their yard and burned their house down. In A Time to Kill they got the justice that they wanted. Carl Lee Hailey was the one that received the justice. He was pleaded not guilty for the murder of the two guys that raped his daughter. Jake Brigance used the jury against him to find the justice he was seeking. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Robinson did not receive justice in the story. He was pleaded guilty for a crime that wasn’t even committed. As the trial was going on people were trying to get revenge on the other side. They thought getting revenge will have an affect on the results, but little did they know it wouldn’t. Bob getting revenge on Atticus did not change the outcome, because it was the jury’s decision. The “KKK” getting revenge on Jake also didn’t change anything because in the end Jake got the outcome that he wanted. Revenge has no effect on justice in any kind of
