School Uniforms are beneficail

The debate over school uniforms has been going on for years and is still widely debated and talked about in our education system today. Both sides of the argument have many supportters. As you will see when taking all things into consideration the postive effects of school uniforms are far more greater then the negative effects. I belive uniforms should be required in public schools because their use would lead to a better education, less violence, and lower cost to parents.

Former President Clinton is perhaps the most famous and influential advocate of school uniforms. In a March 1996 speech he said:

"If it means that the school rooms will be more orderly and more disciplined, and that our young people will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside instead of what they're wearing on the outside, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms(Mitchell 1).”

I cant agree more with former President Clinton. When it comes to education I belive school uniforms can be a great assett. Having a school uniform policy helps schools provide a better education in the sense that there are less distractions for the students aswell as less stress. One of the major distractions that schools without a uniform policy face is students focusing on the wardrobe of other students rather then focusing on school. Bullying and peer pressure also become larger distractions in schools without uniforms because students tend to be more focused on who is wearing the latest brands and styles. As you can see school uniforms are more affordable for parents. Even for low income parents who belive they cannot afford schools uniforms there are many ways that they are made affordable. There are clothing vouchers that may be used to purchase schools uniforms, as well as many local businiess that donate to schools to help with the costs of the uniforms. Another option is thirft stores also sell uniforms at a low cost price.

Overall, school uniforms are a great thing to have. Even though this argument whether or not school uniforms will hurt or benifits schools will be never ending. There seems to be more positive outlooks than negative on schools that require school uniforms. I myself know that when I have a child of my own I will have no problem with my child attending a school that requires school uniforms.
