School Dress Codes and Uniforms Should Not be Allowed “Don’t keep all your feelings sheltered- express them. Don’t ever let life shut you up”(Dr. Steve Marboli). This quote relates to the topic of school dress codes and uniforms, because having dress codes you can’t always wear what you like to school. You have to wear certain types of clothes that you may not like, or feel comfortable in. Guys have no problems with dress codes because, they are neer the ones to get in trouble, so the dress code is very unfair.
School dress codes do not allow students (mostly girls) to express themselves. Mr. Kurt Gathar’s states “Uniforms eliminate individuality, even though each student is different there are standards. Students should be able to express themselves through clothing at school”(Cates). No matter if the clothes they want to wear are comfortable or dress up clothes, it shouldn’t matter, and kids should not be teased for wearing comfortable clothes. Some families don’t have as much money as others, so they have to go to stores where they can find the cheapest clothes, and sometimes the condition they have to get those clothes in sometimes may not follow dress code. The rules mostly are applied to girls which is very unfair. Riena said “I think dress codes are sexist and unfair (Hardesty). We as girls are told that if we wear anything too revealing it can be a distraction to guys, which basically tells us their education is more important than ours, because girls have to miss class time because of the boys” Most girls are self conscious enough and don’t need to be put down by kids and teachers also. The things that girls get in trouble for wearing are not distracting or inappropriate, so most should not be getting pulled out of class and being distracted for no
