Diversity is what propels organizations to greatness. When organizations have a diverse membership, it fosters a sense of creativity, acceptance, and cultural competency. Altogether, diversity exists in the form of differences in age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, value, religion, sexual orientation, backgrounds, experiences – essentially anything unique to individuals. Therefore, organizations that capitalize diversity enable those of various perspectives to bring forth new ideas and thoughts to the organizations. To further illustrate this idea, at the Robert Morris University Phonathon, diversity initiatives within the organization seek to not only attract a diverse workforce, but also attempt to improve communication among the diverse members of the organization.
Therefore, to attract potential employees, the Robert Morris University Phonathon uses various marketing techniques that appeal to different groups of people. Although all employees, except for the Graduate Assistant and the Assistant Director of Student and Parent Philanthropy, must be undergraduate students, the Robert Morris University Phonathon attempts to entice a multitude of students from various majors, class statuses (first-year students to senior-status students), and backgrounds. With such a diverse workforce, Colonial Callers are able to call constituents with which they share similar affinities. When this occurs, Colonial Callers are better able to connect with constituents and are more likely to secure donations. For example, a Colonial Caller that is also a member of a sorority will call constituents that were also in a sorority when they were a student; much like an athlete is going to call a former athlete. Therefore, a diverse workforce proves to be advantageous for the Robert Morris University
