The Renaissance was the start of a new age, an important time in European History that ultimately influenced more than just Europe. In a world of Greeks and Romans the Renaissance began in Florence, Italy and then spread around Europe from there. Florence was the root and the center of a lot of cultural movement and advancements during the Renaissance. This time was a cultural rebirth and a recovery from hard times such as political disorder, diseases, and loss of culture. From artistic, to scientific, to religious thinkers, and innovations, the new Europe was born.
Intellectuals placed on emphasis on literary works as well as the study of liberal arts, philosophy, ethics, and more. People were encouraged to use their abilities and their knowledge to think for themselves and for the state as a whole. The works that were studied at the time were classics as people sought knowledge on Greek past and Christian doctrine. Human worth and individuality became important, also known as Humanism. Humanism meant that there was much worth placed on the individual rather than on religion or supernatural powers. There were even changes made in art. Artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci were well known during this time, as they are even well known today. Art began to imitate nature, focus more on perspective, and make objects look realistic. Artists looked deeper into their work and Florentine created new painting styles and art styles in the fifteenth century. There was a focus on perspective, movement, and anatomy.
