When I received my pre-registration paperwork at the end of my tenth grade year, I automatically knew what English class I wanted to take. Many people had spoken to me about the class and explained that it was a more challenging curriculum, but I knew that it would help prepare me for my journey to university. This class was English Composition I. I was delighted to be taking a college class when I was just a mere junior in high school, even though I knew that it would be more difficult than an average high school course. When the class began, my writing style was simple, and I thought that I could breeze through because that had worked for me in the past. When I received the grade for my first paper, I quickly realized that I would have to increase the depth and complexity of my writing and become less of a one-dimensional writer. When I received the grade for my first paper, I automatically knew that I would have to increase the complexity of my essays. In my essay, “The Eulogy of My Former English Class,” I did not show the extent that my writing skills could reach. I wrote my paper as if it were a story and only skimmed the surface of the prompt. In my final essay, “The Impossible Standard,” I showed the complexity that is necessary in college writing. I did thorough research and found facts that not only backed up what I was writing about, but also pleaded my argument well. My grades on the two were different, and I showed progress between the two.
