As a child, my parents had always drilled into me that an education is something that is a must and if I need help, help will be provided. My mother was the English and writing influence of my family while my father was the math and science influence factor. My mother’s dream was to be an editor and as such she would help edit all of my papers and my brother’s when available. Unfortunately, my mother never reached that goal but loved helping us with our writings. She would have us do cursive practices on weekends or have us read before bed. My writing career and reading started at an early age and because of it my style and grammar has improved. I managed to take French I through French IV. At the end of each course we had a final essay paper about the culture we were learning from that whole year. Each essay had to be written in French and we had to use the new grammar that was taught. Grammar in America is extremely different from that of France and other francophone countries. Taking all those language courses helped me as a reader as well. Even though it was in another language, using pre-reading as well as interpretive reading skills strengthened my abilities. Along with taking as a second language, I took all honor English courses from freshman to senior year. In each of those courses I had individual readings and assigned novels. We would have in class discussions, short answer quizzes, whole book tests, and correlation essays about certain themes of the books. Senior year English was focused more on college essays. We spent countless months constantly improving the rough draft we came up with first. We planned out our topics based on common college prompts, exchanged feedback between peers, made several rough drafts and then turned them in to be read-over by our teacher. Writing workshops were held afterschool, if we felt we needed a second opinion. I also took Art II through Art IV and Photography I. During these classes, art and photography history lessons were given twice a week. With these art history lessons, we had to write descriptions and how we felt about the works shown. This presented a different style of writing and learning to “read” the photographs or art and give a thought-out response. High school provided help in not only English or writing courses but elective writing as well. One thing we didn’t talk or go over as much in my classes however was climate change. Climate change was revelaed to be the main topic of this RC 1000 writing course and I can say
