One of the biggest improvements within my documented essay is that I avoided first and second pronouns throughout the paper because I was continually thinking about it. In my other papers one frequent comment would be to avoid these pronouns but I was doing it subconsciously to engage the reader. For some reason, I believed it to be the only way to effectively engage your audience into your writing. Something I probably still need to work on would be writing in a manner that is oriented to my specific needs for the paper. Throughout my writing process I don’t often evaluate how the reader’s needs are being met through my organization or other factors. Throughout my schooling most research papers were based in an argumentative format and I felt myself slip into the habits of writing that type of essay when writing the documented essay. I rewrote the entire paper because I was too biased towards one side and couldn’t fix it without reexamining my structure and what I wanted the paper to display as a whole.

As stated in the previous paragraph, it was a bit difficult to portray both sides of the issue because I had already formed an opinion on the subject matter. Whenever I wrote my paper my word choice was leaning towards my opinion that media was a bad influence. However, my experience in Socratic seminars and debate helped me to fix this issue by discussing my paper with other people and imagining if I was on the other side of the issue.
