Tyranny is taking advantage of your power for self needs. Tyranny can be by the many the few or by one person. A constitution is a written plan that provides the basic outlines of how a government works and it’s goals. The constitution helps guard against tyranny by separating powers between each part of the government. Federalism is one part of the constitution that guards against tyranny. According to James Madison federalist paper #51 “...power surrendered by the people is first divided between two distinct governments (State and federalism)”. Federalism, doesn’t give power to just one group. It splits it between state and federal government. By dividing power it prevents one group from having absolute power, therefore preventing tyranny.
