The Pyramid of Giza is the last remaining ancient wonder of the world. The Pyramid is located in Cairo, Egypt and was built somewhere around 2551-2472 BCE. Today, the architectural wonder brings in millions of tourists a year to see what remains of the old world power. However even today there still remains some mystery to how the ancients were able to create this towering structure. Theories range from scientific and archeological studies to aliens. The structure itself takes up approximately “13 acres at its base” (Art History, pg. 225). Its top reaches a height of 481 feet. Its base rock was quarried nearby with blocks that weighed about 2.5 tons on average, with nearly 2 million in the entire creation. It had a finish of polished limestone. Shaw wrote an article for BBC history discussing the different theories on the creation of the Pyramid. He strengthens the point that we know little about the engineering methods of the Egyptians. This has caused so much confusion when it comes to understanding the process of the Egyptians. How were they able to get these massive rocks moved to the exact position? How were they able to align the entire building perfectly to the north? The article attempts to reconcile some of these questions. When it came to the aligning of the building the Egyptian architect and surveyors may have been using the stars for exactly this. “It is clear that the Egyptians were using their knowledge of the stars to assist them in their architectural projects from the beginning of the pharaonic period.” (BBC History) One Egyptian ceremony that used constellations would result in “less than ½ a degree of error”. (BBC History) The actual engineering method for the angles is still a mystery although but there is a strong case for this theory. Two stars rotate around the North Star it is estimated that around 2467 BCE the stars would have been in perfect alignment. This was supported by the slightly off center pyramids that were made before and after the Pyramid of Giza due to the shifting
Constructed during Egypt's 4th Dynasty, The Pyramids of Giza are truly an astonishing work of architecture. These pyramids display several of the characteristics, that are now known, to be attributed to the Ancient Egyptian era. Years of research show that much of the ancient Egyptian's focus in their artistry, was that of a religious nature, regardless of medium. Artists of the time, focused their efforts on depicting the various Gods and Goddesses, immortality and the afterlife, and the glorification of the pharaohs. (MindEdge) One of the best examples of this are the pyramids. Each pyramid was built to be the final resting place of a pharaoh (Khufu, Khafre, or Menkaure) upon his death, and subsequent mummification. They were built on the
Has it ever crossed your mind that the oldest and only surviving of the Seven Wonders of the World was built in times that predated any modern technology? Doesn't it seem almost impossible? There are three Pyramids of Giza, the first one was commissioned in Ancient Egypt by the Pharaoh Khufu, around the year 2540 BCE. They are located in Giza, Egypt, and take on this name. Standing 488 ft tall, they were once the tallest buildings in the world, for many hundreds of years. The site is one of the most famous worldwide, receiving millions of tourists each year. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World demonstrate individuals’ incredible creativity and imagination. God, of course, is responsible for these creations as He is the one who blessed mankind with such imagination and creativity. Some of these amazing pieces of history include the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, and the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. The complex architectural feats that each wonder displays are truly remarkable. However, six of these wonders have unfortunately been destroyed. The only structure that remains is the Great Pyramid of Giza. When observing this great ancient wonder, it is interesting to consider its general facts, theories of construction, and strategies of preservation.
The monument was build and three stages. The first phase was began around 2900 BC. which was a circular ditch. Then in 2500 BC. Volcanic stones called bluestones was put in place, each weigh five tons.

Soon enough Egyptians came up with the Great pyramid, which was bigger than step pyramids and mastabas. The Great pyramids were built for emperors and kings. A few pyramids still stand today, and are great attractions for tourists. The pyramids were built by taking blocks of granite to the workshop, measuring the blocks down to size, shaping the blocks, and placing the blocks into the body of the pyramid. The core of the structure is now completed. Then, you place the limestone blocks on the top of the structure (they started putting the blocks on top and then worked their way down). They left two empty rooms to place the pharaoh and his belongings in. They sealed the pyramids so well, it took four hundred years for two robbers to figure out how to get in. Free citizens, drafted for public work, not by slaves of any sort, built the pyramids. Four thousand expert stone sculptors built the pyramids all year round. An extra work group of about ninety-five thousand men worked on the pyramids during the four-month period of the inundation (the time of enforced idleness for farmers, since the field were covered with the Nile water flood). The pyramids were built between the year 1600 B.C. and the year 2700.
