Page 278 Questions: 1) I believe that my theoretical curves don’t really match like figure 4 but then again it somewhat does. My immigration curve and extinction curve do hit each other once, but not like in figure 4 where they hit each other twice. Also my extinction curve is going up like in figure 4 and my immigration curve is going down just like in figure 4. So I guess you could say that my curves represent the curves on figure 4. 2) I accidently didn’t change my answer on my lab underneath the graph so I do apologize for that, but I feel that my hypothetical equilibrium state did almost reach my predicted number. The reason why I say this is because my predication number was only like I want to say roughly around 4 and it came bout between 2 & 3. Another one I feel would be like if you went outside and used the cement, the cracks in the cement, which is due to light and the ground plates underneath the soil, could make the ping pong ball miss the island. I felt that the best ground to use would have been title or polished wood because it gives the ping pong ball enough bounce to at least reach the island. 4) My small island results compared with my large island results came out as like the species number on my small island went down while the changes in species number for my large island went up. I feel that this result could have been predicted by the species-area formula. The reason is because since my big island is a lot bigger than the small island, it can hold up to 2x the animals than the small island could. Another reason is that when the island increases, the extinction rates slow down and try to balance towards a greater biodiversity unlike with the small island where extension rates are going
