The reintroduction of wolves into West Yellowstone National Park is detrimental to the quality of life in Yellowstone. Many people in the mainstream media have jumped on the “save the wolves” bandwagon, without knowing what the effect of the wolf on the ecosystem. It is a politically correct thing to be pro-wolf. Unfortunately the people who are making all the noise do not live in or around the park. They do not have their livelihood threatened by the wolf. They aren’t hunters, and so they don’t notice the decrease population of other animals that these large packs of wolves have diminished. Ranchers are not reimbursed for all losses of livestock to where they are getting their money back from wolf attacks. People that are pro-wolf say that wolves don’t kill enough domestic animals to cause any harm. According to WildEarth Guardians they say that livestock owners lose about 11% of their livestock is lost to carnivore caused deaths (Livestock Losses). Pro-wolf supporters also say that the livestock owners are reimbursed for their losses. Yes, this is true but they do not get reimbursed for their loses and there is a lot of paperwork to do with getting some of the money back. The incidence of kill rate among domesticated animals by wolves has risen over 50% in the last twenty years in Minnesota (Bill). Barber Meyer states “the wolves are getting more aggressive” (Meyer). W. Tom says “that it is just part of the life cycle” (Tom). Yes it is true about the life cycle, but what is going to happen when there is not enough food for all of the wolves in the woods? They start coming into towns and small cities looking for food. Small children and animals will be the wolves’ first targets because they will be the easiest to attack.
Moreover, The wolves that were reintroduced into the Yellowstone area are a different species than the ones that were there before the original wolves went extinct. Tourism in Yellowstone has increased since the wolves have been reintroduced (Dan). There are pros and cons to the reintroduction to the wolf. The good thing is that people come to Yellowstone and spend money in and around the surrounding States. But all the people are pro-wolf that want to go green and save the wolves would have you think about the amount of pollution that comes from all of the 4-Wheelers, Recreation Vehicles, and
