One of the challenges we face is that there’s a limited consensus on what the definition of professionalism is. Most of us agree it includes things like attire and behaving appropriately in a context of etiquette, and certainly, it includes respect for others and integrity. But professionalism also exists at a deeper level. I can paraphrase Oliver Wendell Holmes, who defines the profession as “something that provides a meaningful service to others, where the result of the service is the most important thing, rather than the money rendered for.”

A conclusion is that attitudes drive behaviors, and behaviors drive actions, and actions reinforce attitudes. So being professional can be applied to anyone and everyone. Being professionalism is not an event is a process that takes an internal drive, and motivation. It is often sparked by interest and desire that keeps that process going. It applies of course at work, but it also applies at home and school.
It is important to keep professionalism all the time if you are a professional when you can do your job to a professional standard on a regular basis, every day under different circumstances. Professionalism in the workplace is an asset that it can be developed and make a part of your image, and is seen as more professional will benefit your career and position in your company. It will set you apart from others making you as a potential professional to achieve results and enhance your image. When we look at professionalism, we have to have a give and take, when we try to learn professionalism we have to learn it from people who are professional. Professionalism is one of the most important traits that will define us in our workplace. If you lack professionalism, you’re missing an excellent opportunity to promote your best qualities, because people will have a hard time to see your conditions.
In sum up, being professional is to have the knowledge, skills, and determination to excel at what you do, and it is easy to detect. You can have figured out what works and what doesn’t, or what you should do or shouldn’t be doing. You can improve it, and develop professionalism with help you to advance at work.
