World War II was a result of all the problems that were left unresolved after World War I. World War I left Europe unstable and with lot of financial and political problems."In particular, political and economic instability in Germany, and lingering resentment over the harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty, fueled the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist (Nazi) Party." (History.com Staff). After becoming chancellor in 1933 Hitler used his growing power to name himself supreme leader in 1934. Three days after invading the Netherlands German soldiers fought with French forces in Sedan. On June 10 when France was close to collapsing Italy put their pact with Germany into action and declared war to Great Britain and France . On June 14 German forces entered Paris. Marshal Philippe Petain requested a truce which divide France into two sides. One of the sides was under German military control and the other side was under the control of Petain's government. The German military bombed Britain in the summer of 1940. The Royal Air Force defeated the German Air Force forcing Hitler to postpone trying to invade Britain. Britain's resources were limited causing the lend-lease act to be acted upon. The U.S. began giving Britain the crucial aid need. In the early 1940's Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria had joined the Axis (German troops and their allies). Hitler's real objective at the time was to invaded the Soviet Union because he believed that it would be enough space for the Aryan race to populate. After the Midway battle the Allies were getting closer to their ultimate goal Japan.
