Having taken foundational pharmacology courses, I was mesmerized by the intricate orchestrations of biochemical interactions within a single cell. In particular, I was captivated by the precision and ingenuity of cellular signal transduction mechanisms through simple chemical modifications. As a result, I became extremely interested in how small genetic and molecular perturbations within the cellular pathways can lead to devastating physiological consequences. I am especially passionate about oncology and neuropharmacology research as it combines my curiosity for genetic analysis with my interests in biochemical pathobiology and public health. By understanding the fundamental causes of high prevalence diseases, I intend to make further contributions towards the medical community through additional knowledge discovery and translation. Through the project, I hope to solidify my theological knowledge with practical laboratory techniques to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the medical science field. Additionally, I hope to observe the processes of scientific investigation and understand the importance of basic research in propelling the advancements of the health care system. Lastly, I want to develop creative and critical thinking skills while acquiring advanced communication, presentation and collaboration skills through immersion among Canada’s brightest minds.
