Question 1. – Persuasive prose

The extract taken from the book Animal Farm is a very persuasive and convincing piece of writing because it portrays what could really go through an animal’s mind while humans are blind fully torturing them. I am going to have a look at a specific piece of writing from this novel, analyzing the content in this specific paragraph as a persuasive text.

This extract is about animals having a conversation. The conversation is started by who may seem like the “alpha animal” just by the phrase “I do not think, comrades, that I shall be with you for many months longer…” This phrase also infers that he is very wise and possibly the oldest as it is suggested that he may die soon. “No animal in England is free.” emphasizes the brutality that those animals are feeling although there will still be wild animals that are indeed free, for them it feels like there life is basically over as soon as it has began. “…so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies” is also a metaphor because you don’t really keep breath in your bodies, it is just trying to emphasize that they are not fed nearly enough before they are worked “to the last atom of [their] strength” which could also be seen as a …show more content…

The words may be over exaggerated but that’s the whole point, to make the reader feel the animals pain, make them feel what it would be like having to live in their shoes. This piece of writing is trying to persuade the reader to stop and think about animal cruelty and what is truly happening to the animals out there. It is trying to persuade the reader to stand up for what is right.

This all shows that this is a very persuasive piece of writing, trying to persuade the reader to agree with what is being said. It gives the reader in great detail of what could possibly be going through an animals mind while being blind fully tortured. The animals don’t have a say and cannot do anything about it so therefore it would be up to the people to try and make a difference so that is what this specific persuasive piece of writing is trying to
