What does the American flag represent? The flag represents the country, and what the american people stand for. What is the origin of the flag, what does it symbolize, what are the rules and codes of the flag, what are the parts of the flag, and how has it changed over the years? It is a symbol of hope, and of perseverance. According to the website US flag, the flag can never be used as part of an athletic uniform or costume. The only exception is the flag patch which is used by military personnel, fireman, and policeman. If placed over a casket, the union should be placed over the head and left shoulder of the casket. But the flag cannot be lowered into the grave too. The flag should never have any type of drawing or design not originally on the flag, whether is was made on the flag or attached to it. When flown with other flags such as state flags, county flags, and it should never have any flag above it or larger than it. If the flag is worn out out and no longer fitting of representing the country, it should be burned in a dignified manner.
