Persuasive Essay On Electric Cars

It is not everyday an engineer can change the world, but every time he tries something good will come out of it, not necessarily what he wanted, but new technologies will be discovered. Oil is something that mankind cannot always rely on; it will come to an end. In fact, by 2040 production levels will be down to about 20% of what is currently consumed ("When Will”). Why are the automotive companies not providing better electric car options, what makes that so difficult? Is it the charging time, the efficiency? What if the car was constantly charging? This would mean that no span of 10 hours would have to be wasted to charge the car and drive for another 150 miles (range of the BMW i3). Not to mention, taking a trip on the new electric vehicles (EVs) is an absolute nightmare, as the owner does not know if they will be able to charge the vehicle throughout the trip. However, the solution for these issues seems extremely logical in terms of clean energy sources, and as the Chief of the Engineering & Projects division of the Volkswagen Group, I would make sure this issue was solved once and for all. The solution is simple, or at first sight, it looks simple: cover the car with solar panels, add breaking generators (they turn heat energy back into electric energy), batteries and a plug for the eventual emergency charge. There is not a single …show more content…

It also means the car would be very expensive, as solar panels are not very cheap, they go for around $10,210 before taxes for a 24 panel set that generates 815 kWh. Being that an average a car such as the i3 needs 33 kWh for 150 miles, and the average male American driver drives 344.79 miles per week, the solar panels used to heat water, if applied correctly to the car could fully power the
