Should a man who beat his girlfriend's dog to death because of an argument face only 18 months in prison or no time incarcerated at all? Animal abusers should have a harsher punishment because many animal abusers face a short time incarcerated and when released strike again, animals are living, breathing creatures and should not be harmed in any way, and most animals contribute to people's lives in a positive way. Animal cruelty needs to be taken more seriously and needs to have a more severe punishment before any more animals are mistreated.

Some people believe that we should only use jails for more severe criminals such as murderers and rapists(Buff). While some people deserve to be sentenced to prison for crimes similar to child abuse or child neglect, those should not be the only crimes punishable to that extent. So while murder and child abuse are very horrible crimes, animal abuse is just the same and should be dealt with in that manner(Buff).
