Nguyen Writing Argument Mrs. Hazel Homework should be banned for all Children In most schools in the United States, children receive homework as early as kindergarten, or as late as third grade. In a reacent poll in the U.S. 95% of fourth graders believe that homework is nothing but a chore. From research projects from Australia to Japan, most kids under the age of ten have short attention spans, which causes them to easily get stressed, something a child should not experience. As stated by Dr. Michal from the University of Yale, “Most kids under the age of 10 have a shorter attention spans, and any kid would be exhausted after hours of mind-bending studies, yet they come home with a pile of homework waiting for them.” When students come home from 6 ½ hours of school, most want to rest and put their bottled creativity to use. This is more important than homework. Instead, they would spend 2-4 hours or more on homework. In other words, kids want to enjoy their childhood. It’s obvious that this is just too much for a child to handle. Rather than teaching kids what they need to learn during school hours, they are forced to do it at home. This is a place where a child should have freedom. Additionally, if the child doesn’t complete his or her homework, they would be punished. This causes fear to develop for a child. No kids should not be subjected to this fear or strife for whatever reason. This act is unjust in every way, yet schools still do it.
