Since a small child, I have been surrounded by art. My father is currently a high school art teacher, and has taught me many artistic abilities. I am fascinated by watercolor arts, hyper-realism art, and the ideas and sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci. Mainly, I express my art through a simple pencil and paper. As it may seem simple, I am fully capable with multiple shading techniques and can draw still life scenes, along with accurate human anatomy. Although I prefer pencil and paper, I am completely open to new ways to further myself in the art world. However, I am not a stranger towards sculpting or oil pastels. In past years, I have submitted art pieces into two competitions, one being college level. And I am looking forward to finding more
Art is something strange and even meaningless in my family tradition. I am from a family of the medical discourse community. Most of my family members have medical degrees. Therefore, they hoped that I could follow the family tradition. However, I chose to follow my dream. According to the book, East Eats West, by Andrew Lam, he mentioned ““America will tell you to look out for number one, to think for yourself […] follow your dream … take care of yourself first … you cannot make anyone else happy if you don’t love yourself” (45). I have to make myself happy before helping and satisfying other people. Therefore, I chose to continue my education in the Digital Media Art (DMA) field because I love technology and art. I believe that I will do well in this profession. Art is created for many reasons, and art can be beautiful, frightening, or provocation (Barrio). In order to explain the discourse community of Digital Media Art, I will use the interview that I had with Ms. A, a professional artist in Graphic Design, and some other research articles. Leonardo da Vinci was the first artist to define many different artistic movements. He was also known for creating new ideas and inventions that are now used practically. Also because of his cleverness, he was often called a universal genius (Summers) showing how smart he was. Way back in those Renaissance times, he was known for painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, scientist, mathematician, inventor, anatomist, botanist, musician, and a writer, but recently he is mostly known as an artist and his talents. Although years have been past after the Renaissance, da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” and “The Last Supper” remain as the best piece ever painted!

In year nine I realized that it was something that I might like to pursue as a career, I started taking it more seriously. Leonardo da Vinci was the very man that painted the Mona Lisa, arguably the most famous painting in the world. Leonardo grew up in Anchiano, Tuscany (now Italy) in the mid 15th Century. He grew up in a time at which the world was being expanded from the new lands by great explorers like Christopher Columbus. In Leonardo’s day, views on religion, politics, art and science were constantly being questioned. Ideas of the great thinkers from Greece were also being rediscovered. Creativity is another important part of me. Just as the color blue, Im creative, bold, artistic and imaginative. I can see spot beauty in the most simplistic of things. Whether its the way an artist makes flowers three dimensional or the graidents of shadowing, all thanks to my creative abilities. Im capable of creating things imaginable to other people. Leonardo Di Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy just outside of Florence. He was the son of Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci, and Caterina. His dad took custody of Leonardo because his mother went off and married another man and moved to a neighboring town. They kept having kids, although not with each other, so Leonardo had about 17 half sisters and brothers. So in 1891, I decided to move to Paris for artistic training to help me improve my artistic ability. I took a lot of instruction and criticism from famous artists from well known schools such as the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts. I was very pleased with my picture in watercolour pencils but the collage didn’t turn out to well. After this I made a page of leaves drawn in 2 styles two in pencils and two in rubbings. I was pleased with the leaves done in pencil but the rubbings didn’t look that nice as you can only get a single colour and no shading. Next continuing with the vegetation theme I made a picture of Monet’s water lilies. I was pleased with this as it allowed me to experiment with pastels and enabled me to create a strong colourful picture. Next we made a copy of a picture of Jesus on the cross in acrylic this painting was done by Gauguin. This enabled me to experiment with a new style of painting with its simple lines and bright colours. The next piece of art is the piece that I’m happiest with out of my entire book. It was a copy of a print of black and white natural objects shaded with dots and lines. This was a completely new style of shading for me and it is one that I like a lot. Then I started developing my final art piece for the year I took a section of my garden and drew and shaded it in black pen after this I did 2 or 3 more pictures of this section of my garden one in pencil one in collage and one in acrylic.

Many artists say that they were born to do art, that it was always in their blood and that they cannot remember a time that art was not a part of their lives. For me, this was exactly the opposite. I was always trying to do my best in science and mathematics and art was not even on my radar until I was a freshman in high school where I met my first inspiration for art, Zack Smithey.
