“Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow”. I feel that this quote effectively represents my personal journey towards achieving personal fulfillment through leading a purpose-driven life. This deep-seeded need for completion has led to me to be introspective and reflect over the course of my life and has ultimately fueled my desire to pursue a career in Corporate Strategy/Corporate Development within the healthcare industry. There are several reasons for this course of thought: One such reason is that I believe my experience as a business analyst will serve as solid foundation for corporate strategy in that the skill sets required to analyze and predict business trends are an essential step towards strategically setting the course for a business division or corporation – thus enabling for a natural transition. In addition, I have been passionate about healthcare for the majority of my life. My passion began with my aunt’s struggles with lupus, through my nephew’s challenges as a child with autism, my uncle’s life-threatening complications with hydrocephalus up until my mother’s recent triumph over cancer. I have been working in the Healthcare Industry for upwards of 5 years. Approximately 2 years ago, I started working for HealthSpan - an integrated healthcare facility aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of their employees, families, and communities across Ohio and providing insurance products for group and individuals. As this was my opportunity to finally learn the insurance side of the Healthcare Industry I took a risk. I relinquished my full-time position as a case manager at a community center, a service created to provide community support and advocacy to adults diagnosed with severe mental illnesses for a private contractor
I am interested in pursuing the Physician Assistant (PA) degree because of my experiences both within the medical field and as a patient. These experiences have led me to believe that a team approach to patient-centered medicine provides the best and most comprehensive care possible. Further, the PA profession offers me the opportunity to continue my lifelong passion of helping others, giving back to my community, and provides me with further opportunities to teach.
When I was five years old,I had my first fracture, I fell off my brother’s tricycle while I was standing on it to reach for the light switch, I fell right on my left arm which resulted in fracture of my humerus and damage to my elbow ligaments, my arm was immobilized in a cast for about six weeks, after the cast was removed, I could not flex my elbow at all, I also had difficulty using my arm, I started range of motion and strengthening exercise till my arm was back to normal, it was a difficult but enjoyable process as well and I felt so proud of myself. This led me to find an interest in rehabilitation. I pursued this path and earned a B.A. in physiotherapy with the hope of improving the lives of others.
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
When I was a senior in high school, applying for colleges was something I was trying to put off. I had such a wide range of interests that I had no inclination what career path would be the right fit for me. I envied my classmates who could concisely answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” By April of my senior year, I found myself accepted to 10 different Universities in many different majors and still no clear direction. It wasn’t until meeting with faculty from different nursing schools that I became very interested in the thought of becoming a registered nurse. Speaking with anyone associated with the nursing programs, I noticed a strong sense of pride and enthusiasm that was unique to the field.
My mom always used to say,” Look at the person as a whole to understand the condition.” Even though it made little sense to me as a child, I learned the concept when I was doing my Internal medicine rotation. The passion of knowing that I could improve a person’s quality of life drew me into pursuing medicine. The multitude of different organ systems that one covers while practicing medicine fascinated me to delve into a field that encompasses them all - Internal Medicine. In addition, I enjoyed the challenges that Internal Medicine would provide me with its diversity. Altogether, Internal Medicine was the amalgam of everything I learned in my medical practice and decided to pursue my residency.
The United States Army basic training; pushes your body to it’s maximal potential in sleep deprivation, physical performance, and mental stamina. I have always performed my best in a structured environment such as the military, but the training did push me past my potential and ironically, basic training also sparked my interest in public health. Besides the constant demands and yelling, the drill sergeants always taught us proper hygiene, basic nutrition, rest (when allowed) when we get an opportunity, and to drink lots of water. I have always been fascinated by the human body and what it can accomplish, but during the course of basic training and the influence of the drill sergeants, I began to ask myself. What more can I do to increase my

As I made my way through the nursing program, I witnessed my ideas and perceptions of the nursing practice and what nursing means to me change over time. By examining my Philosophy of Nursing assignment from first year, I can see that my current perspective on the nursing practice is similar to what it was yet has expanded as a result of being able to work alongside various Registered Nurses over the past four years. My philosophy of nursing has also slightly changed. Although my philosophy is still based on the nursing metaparadigm, that is nursing, health, the person, and the environment, I believe that my understanding of each one has evolved. Therefore, I believe it is crucial for me to further explore my current perspective on the nursing
I developed a love for public health very early in my career, after a brief life changing experience in rural Nigeria. My medical school had closed for six months in my fifth year, because of a strike. I decided to go back to my village in rural eastern Nigeria, to stay with my elderly grandmother. She had diabetes and was showing signs of Alzheimer’s disease. I loved her dearly and wanted to help with her care. My village had no electricity and no health care facility. The nearest hospital was 20 miles away.

However, during graduate school, I was reintroduced to public health, and discovered that I could no longer envision my future without it. I became interested in the impact of population health, the quality of health services, and the challenge that public health professionals have in dissecting complex issues that often have larger social and cultural foundations.
My passion for working in the health care industry started when I was just 10 years old, when I accompanied my parents to their routine doctor’s appointments. My parents were Vietnam War refugees and spoke very little English, so my job was to translate the best I could for them. I have always looked forward to going to the doctor’s office, I marveled at their techniques and wondered how they could help cure an individual of their illness. I didn't realize it at the time, but this was the point that I would devote myself to pursuing a lifelong goal of working in the health care industry.

After having attained a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a Master’s degree in Gerontology, I felt I should gain some first-hand experience in physical therapy and thus volunteered to work as a caregiver in a reputed Evergreen rehabilitation center Ga. However, while working as a caregiver I realized I needed to learn much more in order to provide better care in meeting the psychological and physical caring needs of the elderly. I have always had the inherent desire to serve the elderly in reducing their hardships and providing them with the much needed physical and psychological support so that they can lead a happy and trouble-free life.
