I am applying for my Criminology/Policing because it fits in perfectly with my career aims for the future, not a lot of issues attract more public attention and produce more public debate than those involving criminal activities. Read any newspaper, watch any news programme and stories are sure to be evident. It is something that is part of our society and sadly an everyday occurrence for many people.
The study of crime and society's response but also ways to prevent it are areas that have interested me since I was a young child. To me, the reasons for criminal behaviour and breaking laws are varied and thought-provoking; it's definitely an area that I want to learn more about. My interest in this world has motivated me to pursue my chosen subject at undergraduate level and possibly a career in a related field.

Currently, I am pursuing this course as I believe it will provide me with a critical perception on crime and criminal behaviour, topics that interest me greatly. It will also give me a strong grounding for any future career I may pursue. I personally aim to learn about key legislation, the effective management of offenders, the concept of criminal justice and the need to understand issues that relate to crime and criminality.
In a bid to further understand my course and widen my knowledge of society, I volunteered at a local nursing home. Here, I was tested on my time management, my ability to handle uncomfortable situations and the capability to care for people who are unable to look after themselves. This coordinates well with my chosen courses due to my first-hand experience of today’s elderly
