Personal Narrative: The Coaching Team

This year has been really turbulent for the first grade footy side, but one of the real shining lights has been the NSW Cup boys and the coaching staff. How they have carried themselves through what has been a trying time with a number of different injuries and a number of different things going against them at certain stages of the season is a testament to them. But one of the things that we’ve managed to maintain is our resolve and how we pull together and be selfless in our efforts in moving forward, and that has got us to this position now. There has been some really incredible stories this year with guys that have come out of the local competition or players that probably didn’t expect to play much this season that have really stepped up and I am incredibly proud of them. Not only how they are a good group of players, they’re also a group of men, and that’s why it has been easy for me to transition back from first grade to NSW Cup. I probably had an opportunity to say ‘no, I’ll hang the boots up after my last game at Penrith,’ but why would I do that when I’ve got such a great group of guys to play with? While some people would say that I have given them plenty with leadership and experience, they have given me arguably far more than what I could have given them with regards to the fact that they’re energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, how they listen and how respectful they are has certainly given me the much needed fuel at times to get up and get going and continue playing. Guys like Jaelen Feeney and Jake Mamo have got really infectious personalities, and I truly believe that the club is in good hands with the next generation of
