I want to be a high school varsity baseball coach and later move on to college or the major leagues. Not only do I just want to be a coach, but I want to be one of the best coaches that ever coached a game of baseball. In order to do that I’m going to have to have courage, dignity within myself, and also be honest with myself in order for the players to be comfortable playing on my team. Growing up as a kid I always had a strong love for baseball and as I grew older I received a brotherhood from baseball, a place of peace, and also a comfort stage that helped me perform in front of people. From most of the questions I asked, they were a few of the basic things I would need in order to be a great coach. One of the main questions was taking criticism from fans. The fans are always just fans. Which means they know nothing about the amount of work your team puts in or know anything about what the team may be going through so just let them be. My coaches pushed me and stressed how important grades was and making plays on the field was. He made sure we were well taken care of, fed and that we were giving back to our community just as much as it was giving to us. The school I went to holds a lot of tradition so the community was a major factor and wearing our school name around was like carrying the torch at the Olympics, you had to be on your best behavior and making sure you were doing something positive. As an athlete I will continue to show my coaches the up most respect. Just this year, I have learned that being a coach is a tough job and that a lot of hours are put in to it. I never realized it until I came to the gym late at night and my coach was still here getting things prepared for our next game. My senior project is about being a coach and how it can be difficult and not an easy task. I wanted to show others that being a coach is something that takes time and effort in order to accomplish it. Being a coach is not a fun job but it is a job that will help you in the future. Coaching is an experience that not a lot of people get to go through but those who do become not just better people but they become teachers to others in troubling times and in time of need. Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience. The summer before my fourth grade year I was attending a basketball camp at Davidson College, when in the final seconds of a scrimmage game, my ankle was kicked out from under me. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
One diamond, four plates, nine players, a sweaty uniform, cleats, a bat, and a ball are the only things I’ve dreamt of since my first baseball practice when I was three years old. I remember the way it felt to smack the ball off of the tee and have everyone in the stands cheer and scream for me as I ran for first base as fast as I could and never wanting to leave the field even after it had gotten dark outside and all the field lights had been shut off. Baseball has been all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life from the very beginning. I can’t imagine doing anything other than eating, sleeping, and breathing the game of baseball. So when people ask me, “What are your plans after high school?” all I’ve ever known myself to say back was, “I’m not sure but it 'll have something to do with baseball.” With this being said, I have decided to be a baseball coach so I can pass down the knowledge I have for the game I love so much to people younger than me that love it just the same as I have and still do.
Growing up I was extremely blessed having an incredible coach at every level of sport I participated in. From those experiences I know how much a coach can make a difference in your life. For that reason my dream job is coaching college basketball at any division. It does not matter to me what level, because kids at the D-3 level need just as much guidance and help as student athletes at the D-1 level. During my coaching career I hope to blend two leadership styles in particular together in order to make my athletes better men, but also to keep the game they love fun to play. I feel by taking the Charismatic Leadership style’s enthusiasm and loyalty and mixing it with a Transformational Leaders innovation and emphasis on change, I can be an extremely effective and power leader for my student athletes.

I expect athletes to work on improving themselves using the program that I will develop for them. I believe that I must lead by example. I also believe that if I am not improving as a coach, then I am holding our players and program back. I will make sure I have at least two assistant coaches. I will develop an improvement program for myself and for my assistant coaches at the end of each season.

Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.
Coaches are the reason the team becomes successful-well it takes a little talent too-but for the most part, it's because of them. They teach you how to perfect your skills, expand your knowledge of the game, and most of all, they yell at you when you're screwing things up.
