I don’t think I would get up and move to a new area just because my political issues aren’t being heard. I feel that if you get up and leave that you aren’t really being heard because that issue is going to still be a problem at that place you were once at. Instead I feel like I would start a movement to be heard so that change could take place a close mouth never gets fed. If people like Medger Evers, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks would have never did what they did then some things would have never changed this place we still might be segregated. I will vote in elections to come because I personally want to have a voice in government and that it’s a constitutional right to vote. As I get older, the government plays a bigger role in my life and with that I would like to have a say in how my life goes. I know that I can’t change some things, but I would like to at least try and have a chance to have my way go in government which is why I’ll vote. I also believe that since the government protects you in many ways, then you should use the right they give you to vote and do it.
Civil rights are the rights to personal liberty and are provided by the law. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights promises everybody civil rights. But many people, including lots of black people, have been denied their civil rights. Black people, and also some white people who help them, have struggled for these rights for a long time. Many people have helped and many kinds of groups have been formed to help win equal rights for everyone. Things are a lot better used to be, but the struggle is not over.
African Americans have a history of struggles because of racism and prejudices. Ever since the end of the Civil War, they struggled to benefit from their full rights that the Constitution promised. The fourteenth Amendment, which defined national citizenship, was passed in 1866. Even though African Americans were promised citizenship, they were still treated as if they were unequal. The South had an extremely difficult time accepting African Americans as equals, and did anything they could to prevent the desegregation of all races. During the Reconstruction Era, there were plans to end segregation; however, past prejudices and personal beliefs elongated the process.
Many folks go their whole lives without having to move. For them it is easy; they know the same people, have loads of friends, and never have to move away from their families. As with me, I was in a different situation. I grew up my entire life, all eighteen years of it, in a small town called Yorktown, Virginia. In my attempt to reach out for a better life style, my girlfriend and I decided we were going to move to Shreveport, Louisiana. Through this course of action, I realized that not two places in this country are exactly alike. I struggled with things at first, but I found some comforts of home here as well.
If they remain silent on social issues that hurt others, the silent majority can be just as harmful to society as any radical viewpoint. If every one of this silent majority, from the non-voters to the non-activists to the non-expressors, would stand up for what they believed in, perhaps the world would be drastically changed for the better.

One day I wake up and you are in a war and you are getting yelled at to come help fight, but the white person next to you is just standing there and not getting yelled at so you go fight and you get a gun to fight but it is a pistol and the other people have AR.
The war has been okay for now. Right now we are stationed near a fort along the mid-section of the Mississippi river. We have just captured Fort Henry and we foraged for food for a good while after that. Our one dogrobber was killed in battle, so now we have lost the only man in our squadron who knew how to cook decent meals. If only he had some horse sense then he would have survived in battle. You don’t need to worry about me cause I learned many tactics from General Ulysses S. Grant himself, without him we would have been easy prey for those johnnies. Culture is something that we all have. It illustrates who we are as people. There are many types of cultures in this world. The one culture that illustrates who I am is Mexican. I was raised in which some would call a typical Mexican family. In my family are my mom, stepdad, and siblings but my real dad is German and African American, which I still see whenever I want which is a lot. It's common that my parents have extended family over like cousins, grandparents etc. and nobody in my family is quiet and I mean nobody. Everytime I walk in my house it's loud, festive as if we were having a party or a fiesta.
Over the course of the last few months I have been stepping back from my daily routine to observe in as wide a scope as possible, the endless number of things happening. As I mentioned earlier, for many years I made it a point to keep my spiritual life separate from my personal. Furthermore, the news seemed to be an endless meditation on negativity; draining to say the least. From where I stand now imposing that artificial separation between spiritual and person seem rather trite and juvenile, despite the fact that it was beneficial for a time.
It would have been easy to resolve had either one of us wanted to end the squabble. Looking back, it is unbelievable to me that I acted the way I did. Again and again the situation runs through my mind, unveiling new ends to the argument. It was a perfect example of similar scenes playing themselves out all over the world - the most basic level of social conflict we have, the easiest to resolve.

However, these African American citizens had remarkable courage to never stop, until these un-just laws were changed and they received what they had been fighting for all along, their inalienable rights as human beings and to be equal to all other human beings. I believe one person can make a difference. I’ve seen it in my own life and I’ve seen throughout history that an individual who speaks out or acts on their beliefs can make a difference. I think of this often when I am confronted by challenges. Will I remain silent or will I have the courage to act?
