I find myself extremely passionate in Community Service, I have volunteered at Emmanuel Apostolic Church during Vacation Bible School for the past two summers, preparing food, coming up with creative ideas to keep children occupied, and making sure children are safe. During this time my leadership and conversational skills have strengthened. In addition to that, I have also volunteered there on numerous occasions to feed the homeless. In high school, I also volunteered at an Elderly home on bingo night to interact with the elderly, gave a listening ear, it was extremely rewarding to see them smile, laugh, and interact with me as if they had known me for a while; that showed me how much they appreciate having company. I take huge delight in
The most stressful and challenging situation was during my volunteering in the Rehab unit at the hospital. I was assigned to help a student therapist in assisting a patient in walking. The Patient was overweight and it usually takes more than two people when assisting the patient in walking but the therapist and the patient felt confidant enough that she would be able to walk without much help. When the therapist and I began to assist her in standing the patients knees buckled under her and she fell and began screaming in pain. The combined strength of the therapist and I were not enough to help get up and the only thing we were able to do was straighten out her legs and comfort her until more help came. I felt really bad what happen but
I am dedicated to helping out our community and school, because it warms my heart and soul. Seneca said in about 40 to 60 A.D. that you should “be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favors you have received.” In other words you should not boast about the numerous projects you have accomplished and how much physical work you executed, but rather pride yourself on how you helped people in community and school, and how you have affected their lives with positive means. I feel life is joyous and it should be the feeling everyone illustrates, and this is exactly what keeps me functioning in the stressful world today. I find comfort in helping others to make their lives a little more like heaven and this comfort motivates me to perform copious service projects to the best of my capability whenever I find the time. Time is fair to the rich, the poor, and to every race, because time is equal and gives everyone 24 hours daily to accomplish their required tasks. Because time is so valuable and I am occupied by difficult advanced placement and honor classes and juggle school, clubs, sports, and friends, I joined Key Club, a high school division of the adult service club, Kiwanis. Key Club opened new doors to make every extra minute count towards helping others.
One person cannot tackle the vast amount of issues of today and change the world. With so many injustices that occur in today’s society we can’t help but feel overwhelmed as to what people, as citizens of the world, can do to make the world an exceptional environment. Many believe the task is either too large and intimidating to face head on, or they don’t want to face the possibility of failure and criticism. We have the idea of taking on enormous tasks and expect change almost immediately, however, it’s not the anticipated outcome. Real change starts when one contributes to their community; the smallest of impacts generate the biggest changes in the long run.
My passion for firefighting has always been with me since I was 10 years old. A select few of my family members have been firefighters before, including my father. This passion has elevated this year of 2017, I have decided to become a wild land firefighter because of the fierce fire season this year and it looked to me that they needed as much help as they could get.
Since I greatly enjoy helping people and building a more sufficient society, community service was pleasant for me. Most of my community service was performed with my brother. We were both extremely willing to cooperate and assist to the needs of the people we were working with, so our time spent together was enjoyable. Every time we had a new community service act, we would wake up excited, and ready to help out. In fact, we were so pleased with the experience we had, we often talked about continuing to serve the community in any way we can after Faith Formation is over.
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and I love the idea of being considered a dependable person. I enjoy when others come to me to talk about the hardship they are experiencing and being able to provide them with feedback or helpful advice. To do this I learned that you need to have the characteristics of a “people person”. You must be patient, which from my job experience of working in retail and the fast food industry, I would consider myself to be a highly patient person. I also posses the the skill of being outgoing and friendly. I allow myself to be comfortable when speaking with different types of people and I let myself open up so I can personally relate to them. By doing this I believe that others will return the comfort that I created and will want
"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."
This question circled within my head for months as I was trying to decide what I wanted for my future and my career. Choosing a career path is intimidating and scary. I felt as though I wasn’t passionate about a career. I wasn’t interested in nursing, education, business, or engineering. I started to worry because I thought I wasn’t passionate about anything. However, after about three months of worrying and thinking about my passions, I realized that I am passionate about people and fighting the injustices that people all over the world are faced with. I am passionate about ensuring that all people have access to clean water, nutrition, education, and secure shelter. I am passionate about ensuring that all people
A Passion Woven to the Fabric of My Being I am a person with an abounding love in writing; It appealed to my interests, because it exploited and highlighted my strengths. In addition, I can also adress myself in an aesthetic and evocative way – a one-of-a-kind interaction that can only be expressed through writing. Above all, the readers can be both englightened and inspired by a well-written passage. These are only some of the countless wonders of writing. When did I start becoming immersed with it?
I have volunteered in the Relay for Life organization for eight years. I have been a captain of my own team for five of those years. I have been found umpiring Little League baseball games for the previous three years. In the last two in fact, I have been found as an assistant tee-ball coach. This Christmas time I participated in giving joy by being a Salvation Army Bell-Ringer I completed three two-hour shifts during the holiday season.
No neighborhood is perfect there is always something that is able to be bettered. With our neighborhood, Floyd, we can do a better job of getting teens off the streets at night to help keep them out of trouble. Floyd has a drug problem and yet most try to hid it we can’t anymore. One way we can try and get teens off the streets and away from the thought of doing drugs is by having more police officers or setting a curfew and have officers enforce it. If Floyd doesn’t want to spend money on putting more officers on the streets they could always just close off the back alleyways where most of the drugs are dealt to help and reduce them.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
"I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."
I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it. When I heard the words community service, all I could picture is cleaning Philadelphia parks or streets that were filled with trash in either the cold or heat. My mind always went to that space because that 's what my first few encounters with community service consisted of. My high school always had us cleaning something; one time we re-landscaped the parking lot of a homeless shelter. Another time, we cleaned up the weeds out of the loading docks of the non-profit food bank Philabundance. One time my mom made me volunteer
