Personal Narrative: My Challenges As A Writer

As I entered my first semester of college, I was very unclear of what to expect. Personally, writing has never been my forte and I was unsure of any struggles, accomplishments, or challenges that would be brought before me. One of my biggest challenges that I had to overcome was that I tend to use unelevated phrases, my word choice was very simple making my writing appear uneducated. Another challenge that I had was eliminating my usages of cliché. My last biggest challenge that I faced coming into this course, is that I would write in first person in all my writing. I would always use the words “I” or “you” instead of saying “one.” I also always had the tendency to say “In my opinion…” when I started my sentences and paragraphs. I addressed these challenges by altering my writing habits. I altered my writing habits by constantly practicing my new ones, such as avoiding all cliché, and by making sure I no longer use the words “I” or “you.” Something else that I do to address these challenges is that every time I write a word that seems to sound very simple or uneducated, I would look up that word in a thesaurus. Every time I write a word that seems to be “boring” I would always try to find a synonym of that word to make it sound more Inelegant. Along with just finding synonyms for all my …show more content…

From my first day of classes essay, one would be able to see a difference in my writing style. The overall town of my first writing prompt was very bland and was as if I was a typical high schooler writing a prompt. Today, I can see much improvement on my writing capabilities, and how I conduct a writing prompt. My vocabulary choices have been elevated significantly since the start of the semester. I also feel that I am no longer timed when it comes to a writing assignment. I am more confident on my writing skills and I know new technics that enables me to have confidence when I write a college
