One diamond, four plates, nine players, a sweaty uniform, cleats, a bat, and a ball are the only things I’ve dreamt of since my first baseball practice when I was three years old. I remember the way it felt to smack the ball off of the tee and have everyone in the stands cheer and scream for me as I ran for first base as fast as I could and never wanting to leave the field even after it had gotten dark outside and all the field lights had been shut off. Baseball has been all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life from the very beginning. I can’t imagine doing anything other than eating, sleeping, and breathing the game of baseball. So when people ask me, “What are your plans after high school?” all I’ve ever known myself to say back was, “I’m not sure but it 'll have something to do with baseball.” With this being said, I have decided to be a baseball coach so I can pass down the knowledge I have for the game I love so much to people younger than me that love it just the same as I have and still do. My love for baseball will always be something that I carry with me for the rest of my life and I think that being happy with my career choice is more important than an annual salary or lengthy requirements that go along with becoming a coach. I hope that one day I can coach and teach children at the high school level and be a person that they look up to with respect. I want to set examples of leadership and show younger people and children how to have positive and courageous qualities just as I will hope to have as I work towards my dreams of being a coach. The first team I ever played for was Tobers Party Store. For some kids growing up, baseball was just another way to pass time during the summer, away from the grind of public school. For me it was everything. From the moment my eyes snapped open in the morning, until the time I slipped away to sleep, I had baseball on my mind. I loved to play baseball, watch baseball, and talk baseball. Nothing else mattered. Eating and sleeping were just "necessary evils" that took precious time away from my hobby. I anxiously awaited the day when I would be drafted into the professional ranks after a successful college career. Bubbling with excitement, I would explain my inevitable career path to anyone who would listen. Of course, the responses were less than empowering. "Do you know how good you have to be?", and the tried and true " Go to college and get a real job", were two of the more popular sentiments that the "opposition" hurled at me. Naturally, in my 10 year old mind, I knew they were delusional and I would prove them wrong.
when I was ten years old I lost my grandpa, it was a very bad experience for me but it made me stronger. I remember when he taught me how to catch a baseball, ride a bike, mow the lawn and a lot of other things that I will forever cherish in my heart. the memory I will never forget though is when he taught me everything I needed to know about baseball. we would always go outside together and he would do certain agilities with me to build my stamina, teach me how to catch a pop-fly and he would work on pitching with me which is actually one of my main position that I play today. baseball was a big part of my grandpas life and he always wanted me to play In the major leagues. once he passed away my motives for playing in the major leagues increased.
From the time I first saw the game of baseball I fell in love. Even the first word I ever said was “ball”. I have baby pictures in my baseball uniform and whenever a baseball game would be on TV, I would act like I was playing there with them. So at an early age I knew I wanted to play baseball. Luckily, my dad was also very big into baseball and helped me almost every day. Some of my best memories came when we would practice baseball in the front yard, or even go to the local (missing word) and take batting practice.

Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience. The summer before my fourth grade year I was attending a basketball camp at Davidson College, when in the final seconds of a scrimmage game, my ankle was kicked out from under me. In the Dominican Republic, baseball is the country’s pastime and official sport. Baseball doesn’t discriminate, regardless of gender, race, and economic status. In my personal view, baseball runs in the blood and embedded in the genetic coding of Dominicans. As a person whose mother and father are Dominican and born and raised in Miami, there seems to be little to nothing that connects me to their culture. The whole stadium went silent as the ball was throw and. The year 2010 was a very memorable year for the Texas Rangers. It showed great sportsman ship and team work. Wait you didn’t want me to stop? Well can I just go on, I don’t have to tell you what happens do I? As soon as that ball leaves the pitcher’s hand it’s a homerun or an out, a win or a loss. Now that’s what I love about baseball. Over the course of my life, I have had many different career goals which included becoming a teacher, a crime scene investigator or an athletic trainer. In today’s society, hard work seems to be forgotten, or merely just unrealistic. Whether it be in the work field or athletics, many get things simply handed to them. As I begin my final journey and the final four years of my softball career, I look back and reminisce on all the obstacles I have had to overcome throughout my softball journey. I know what it is like to work hard for something you have always dreamt of, but others told you that you would never be able to accomplish it, what it is like to put in work for something you love, without knowing if it will pay off.
Baseball has always been America’s natural past time. Many fans love watching baseball but do not realize how hard it is to prepare for a season. Most fans think the players just show up on the first day. I think this belief is completely false. I feel that preparing for a baseball season requires much preparation. The preparation I use includes working on my swing, working out, and studying other people’s ideas on hitting. These steps are necessary for me to have a successful season. These steps have proven to be a valuable aid in helping me to prepare for the season. I believe these steps are the basic steps to becoming a great baseball player.
I plan to on watching more baseball games and getting to know more about the sport. I want to further my education on the minor’s and AAA league. I would really like to coach little league baseball in the near future. I have always wanted to coach but I have not had the opportunity to do so. In the meantime I plan on learning more about the sport and finding my philosophy as a coach. This class has given me knowledge on the game and motivated me to learn in a sport when losses happen more than wins. I hope I can be a good coach and I hope I can learn to teach kids without making them or myself burnout from the sport. This journey will be a challenge that I look forward to. A hobby I've held onto and cherished for a very long time was playing baseball. The sport was introduced to me by my father through the movie The Sandlot. The sport ended up holding a more significant meaning to me after I learned that both my Father and Grandfather played in their high school years. For me, Baseball laid down the foundation for my future and has been a positive force in my development since I was young.
Many people don't understand the point in playing baseball. Why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they started before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure. Well, I play baseball because of the love I have for the sport, and because of the feeling that overwhelms me every time I walk onto a baseball field. When I walk onto a field I am given the desire to better myself not only as an athlete, but also as a person. The thoughts and feelings I get drive me to work hard towards my goals and to be a better person. The most relevant example of these feelings is when I stepped on the field at Runyon Complex in Pueblo, Colorado during our high school state playoffs in 2003. This baseball field will always be an important place to me.
