The world progresses more and more everyday bringing new devices and technology into our lives. However, we’ve become overwhelmingly dependent on it. Because people have become so attached to technology more people are becoming antisocial, there’s’ been an increase in bullying, were gaining more health problems, and not to mention it’s controlling our lives. The overuse of technology is drastically changing our society in a bad way and we need to change this.
People are so entertained indoors with being able to do almost anything at the palm of their hand. From cell phones to video games to social networks it doesn’t seem there’s any point in leaving the house. It’s come to the point where even if they do leave their homes they’re constantly glued to their phone. People rather talk to each other through texting and social networks than a face to face interaction. This generation is so connected, yet more alone. You can get so many friends from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram but never have met one. People are so antisocial and isolated from the real world. There more worried about what’s happening in the internet and video game world than what’s going on in reality. Things like our T.V’s, video games, computers, phones, and tablets limit us from socializing with people in person. If we just turned off the TV and put down are phones every once in a while and actually had real conversations with our friends and family things would be so much better.
Bullies have always been around but with today’s technology they have a whole new way to harass, and torment people….. “Cyber bullying.” Now cyber bullying is just like traditional bullying except it’s done through the internet. For the most part it’s virtual name-calling. Threatening and harassing someone with the intention to hurt someone mentally. Severe cyber bullying can leave victims with a greater risk of anxiety, depression, and other stress-related disorders. In some cases, kids have turned to suicide. In the last year 9 teenage suicides have been linked to cyber bullying. Research from the i-SAFE foundation shows that “over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying. More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online. Over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet.” With more and more kids having access to computers and cell phones cyber bullying is more likely to rise.
